A collection of postcards, pinbacks, pennants and whatever else seemed like a good idea

Type II postcards

According to postcard expert Dan Even, Cleveland Indians "Type II" postcards were issued by the team in 1948-49. In some cases, the same basic pose of a player was used more than once but cropped differently. Additionally, cards can be found printed with a "white name," "black name" or "no name."

I simply refer to the ones I have pictured together on the "Type II" page as the "big lettered" variation. If you look at the players' names printed on the front of the card, you'll see what I'm talking about. Along with the 1947 Van Patricks, the "big lettered" postcards are my favorites.

The names of the players I use in the gallery are how they appear on the postcard, so misspellings like "Beardon" can be blamed on either on an Indians front-office worker in the late 1940s or someone at the postcard-printing factory.
